The papers of the London office of the British South Africa Company, usually known as the Chartered Company, consist of bound volumes of typescript copies of outgoing correspondence, telegrams, reports, and other papers sent by the London office to its agents. The correspondence concerns such ongoing business of the company as shipments of goods, outfitting of staff, and administrative affairs in what is now Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Included in the discussions are references to negotiations with European powers in territorial claims, notes on contemporary political events, community affairs, geographical information, and on the activities of Cecil Rhodes.
